Finally, the peas are in the ground. Yay!

Kiersten took this lovely photo of me laying out the peas for her to poke into the dirt.

She took this one of her pokes
!

Here she is poking them all down in the dirt!
Jared did some major digging so we could have mounded rows. We probably did 'em a little too high, but oh well.

Finished and getting a little water on 'em.
I was talking to the kids later saying we got the peas planted, and I said, "please planted". Jared said, "Yeah, and they're going to grow up to be thank-yous!"

OK, Jared is waaay too quick!! The mounds look great! Hope we get to come eat some.
So, did you do this after the party? And, did you get a tiller? Keep planting - get your spinach and lettuce in the ground now!
Yep, after the party. No tiller; we decided to rent one, maybe Tuesday. Storage problems, you know. I don't know what lettuce or spinach to plant. What do you do? And how do you fix it so it's edible? Will it be done in time to plant corn in those places? I want lots of corn...
We just plant whatever sounds good from the description, or what you might buy in the store. As for eating the spinach, mostly we eat it as salad greens (Bennion will eat it right out of the garden). Sometimes Charlie fries it with shallots, I think. It's been a year since spinach season, we'll have to ask him. The important thing is to eat it young. Greens are an early crop, they can't take heat, so they finish early. But they don't take much space.
I am grateful for this post because I am getting good information from the comments! I am realizing how ignorant I am when it comes to this garden thing. It might just be tomatoes this year - maybe some carrots? Yikes!
